The thing almost everyone forgets in the final stretch of round one, your recommenders. You asked them weeks ago, maybe months, they said yes, and you've been heads down on your own essays ever since. Meanwhile, they haven't started. Send a check-in now with the deadline and anything else they need from you. Waiting until 3 days before deadline to follow up is how great candidates get weak letters. Don't let someone else's procrastination become your problem.
